Momma Hen, Back Again!

Yay!  Spring is here!  Our little farm is coming to life.  Daffodils are blooming, chicks are hatching, robins are singing, and seeds are sprouting.  This is our family's favorite time of year.  Days are getting longer, which means we can be outside later working on projects or just enjoying all of God's creations.

Our young entrepreneurs have been busy over the winter months working on their business plans in hopes of making some cash over the spring and summer months.  It is such a joy to see their excitement as their creative ideas come to life.

This season, Chicken Girl will be opening her egg business, "Lydia's Pampered Hen Eggs".  She has increased her flock in order to have plenty of free range farm eggs to sell for $3.00 a dozen. They come in all colors, dyed to perfection by nature's way.

Iron Man Scrap Metal will also be opening for business.  Our Gentle Giant will be helping our neighbors, friends, and possibly some new clients, clean out their unwanted metal clutter.

As for Momma Hen and Papa Roo, well we also have some projects lined up.  We had so much fun with our broiler project last year that we decided to do it again.  This time we have ordered 150 broilers!  Yes, that is right, 150!!!!  They will be arriving around April 19th.  We feel we have our system down well enough to handle that number and we will be upgrading some of our processing equipment this year, which should make things easier.  We have a lot of work to do before the broilers arrive though.  The kids and I need to get their coop area ready and build a couple of chicken tractors  so we can let them free range while keeping them safe from predators.

Papa Roo has been busy preparing his garden and starting his seed blocks.  I think he is very pleased with his newly purchased soil block makers. The entry area of our little home was turned into a mini green house for a while.  Now we have this cute little green house in our garden area, made from pallets.

Until next time, Happy Spring everyone :)
